Does Slim 4 Life Work?
I ended up cooking all kinds of your recipes. Medifast is a meal-replacement diet centered around nutritionally-fortified shakes and snack bars, and there are a number of similar products on the market that make use of these types of food products for weight reduction. The bannana pudding is great and I add a tbsp. Cannelle et VanilleCannelle et Vanille. We Will Rock You. Hi Mara, thank you so much for the kind comment!
What is Medifast?
She's been at her goal weight for quite some time and is full of energy. We also got Barnard's newest book, Power Foods for the Brain: Eating like this is second nature and we no longer really think about it much. I no longer fear I'm going to balloon back up to my previous weight. By sa on April 25, I'm vegetarian and this diet is impossible. I lasted 4 days with no weight loss. I previously lost 65 pounds by just eating around the outside edge of the grocery store, but there is so little allowed on this plan, that I couldn't stick with it.

He wisely omits the word "vegan" from the cover of the book, and that word is hard to find anywhere in its pages. The word "vegan" would scare a lot of folks away. Here in Texas, a vegan is considered by most to be either a "hippie" or even worse, a Democrat.
By avoiding the "V" word, and focusing on the theme of "Lose weight in just 21 days", Dr. Barnard IS trying to change people's lives. The first step is to get people to try a vegan diet for 21 days. At the end of those three weeks, most people will have lost weight, have more energy, and generally feel about ten years younger. At that point, remaining on a vegan diet for life will be appealing to many people. The first two thirds of the book is a "pep talk", motivating readers to try this diet.
He gives many examples of people whose health greatly improved on this diet. The last third of the book includes sample daily menus and recipes. I found the recipes to be the most valuable part of the book. Most are reasonably easy to prepare and most use ingredients that are easy to find, at least if you live near a Whole Foods store. I was surprised to find that the "chain store" grocery in my neighborhood now stocks many of these foods, such as whole wheat pasta, brown rice, hummus, tofu, soymilk, muesli cereal, kashi cereal, etc.
I live in a low income inner city neighborhood where not a soul would admit to being a vegan Barnard is describing the same diet as Dr. Many folks would benefit from reading all three books. Even though they are describing the same diet, each provides useful suggestions on how to tailor the diet to your own needs.
And, each book includes useful menu ideas and recipes. I have tried and failed four or five times in the past fifty years to live on a vegetarian diet.
My cholesterol has dropped from a dangerously high level to below the level that has been proven to provide immunity to heart attacks. I have lost ten or twelve pounds of weight while eating unlimited amounts of food. Barnard is asking you to try something new for just three weeks. I'm guessing that most people who follow the program closely for those 21 days will be ready to follow it for life.
Everyone should buy this and follow this By Holly Foote on July 30, This is an excellent book. Everyone should buy this and follow this kickstart weight loss plan. I only had about 6 lbs to lose, and I lost 4 over the three weeks. The most important part, though, is that I am now eating so much better and I feel so much better. I have energy as soon as I wake up and I am always ready to fall asleep at night.
I used to only get about 4 to 5 hours of sleep and sometimes not even that, but now I can sleep for eight hours easily and wake up ready to go. This is the best book I have ever purchased and I highly recommend everyone getting it and following the recipes he provides. It will change your lif, I promise. You will also lose weight. I am 5'5" and I weighed when I started the plan but I really wanted to be about 6 lbs lighter.
I lost 4 in the three weeks and because I walked everyday as well, I saw a reduction in my waist size that I did not expect with just 4 lbs. You will be so glad you did. By Elizabeth on September 12, I bought this book it sounded good , I'll try anything.
But after I sat down and started reading it I realized this guy is talking vegan.!! The cover didn't say anything about vegan.! Then I started reading it just for the heck of it. Everything he says about vegan makes perfect sense.
And he has done the research to back it up. By the time I went to stand back up off the couch I was a vegan. And haven't starved, spent money on weird food, or looked back since!
It's been a month and the pounds are falling off, i have yet to have my blood or blood pressure re-checked yet which were so bad they require medicine but i'm guessing they will be better after getting rid of my gross saturated fat bad habits!! By Amazon Customer on April 29, I became interested in being plant based in I have read many books, watched videos and bought many cookbooks. My struggle has always been portion control. This book is an excellent tool to introduce plant based nutrition and gives you great idea of portion size and meal prep.
Recommend to anyone starting out or needs a refresher. One of the best books I've read on health, weight loss, and nutrition. Already lost 19 lbs. Feeling great and more energetic. It's not a book about a quick fix or gimmick. It's learning what your body needs and how the proper food can change how you feel, your health and wellbeing, and your life.
Grateful to him for his research and insight! By Barbara McCaughin on October 1, Full of great information and motivation: I read a bit every day while I followed the Kickstart Program, and continue to follow the blogs to keep motivated. Cooking is a new hobby and adventure, testing these many recipes. Some I like, some I love, and some - nah. I really do feel better, sleep better, and have a better outlook and disposition these days! By mreenrose on June 11, Yes, this book changed my life I never really say stuff like that--so this is something!
This book guided me through 2 weeks prior to me starting the 21 days--that time was very important for me to wrap my head around the idea of completely changing my way of eating. On May 1 I started the 21 day Kickstart. I adhered to the tenets of the program for the entire 21 days--no animal products or processed foods is essentially the program but it's so much more than that.
I read the book each day and tried many new recipes most of which were terrific. At the end of the 21 days I lost 5 pounds which may seem like no big deal, BUT the big deal is that I have continued to lose weight slowly. I have more energy and look better. My family pretty much puts up with me now--I am a vegetarian I have since resumed eating eggs and cheese on occasion. We compromise at dinners - I make a vegetarian dinner and they eat that along with some meat or seafood.
Here is an example from last night. My husband and son ate some roasted chicken along with the penne and sautéed veggies that I prepared. I cannot recommend this program enough; Dr. Barnard has made this program as user friendly as possible. It is well worth the effort involved, and I have no interest in going back to my former eating habits.. By Eileen Fitzsimmons on July 24, The best eating lifestyle I could ever recommend both for the wonderful, tasty food as well as for health reasons.
I slowly lose weight eating plant based, my blood pressure is way down and the my skin gets lots of complements. I have also taken the class offered through Physiciansl for Responsible Research Dr. Bernard's organization at my local jr college, it was very helpful in understanding how to make the change and in providing lots of cooking tips. The book promotes a lifestyle that keeps you alive and health and benefits the planet at the same time.

I am really glad to have found your blog, I need inspiration!! Thanks so much for sharing! You inspire me to cook lighter for myself and my family! Not only do you speak what I feel, but we went to the same college and I think around the same time … so I feel even more connected to you! Kick it up a notch! So here I am at work and sucked into your blog: What an awesome lady you are! The working yourself to death at the gym is nor was it ever my thing. So happy to have been connected you! I am so happy to discover your writing and your story. Congratulations on your book! I have to say, your boyfriend is one heck of a lucky guy.
I have some buddies coming over this weekend to watch football, and am planning on making the buffalo egg rolls. Buy her flowers, tell her she is beautiful, and appreciate what you have. Cheers, yah lucky dog! I came to look at the buffalo wraps recipe and found someone like my sisters and me. We have all suffered from emotionally eating, for reasons ranging from raising our younger siblings basicly on our own to sexual abuse to watching a another sister die slowly and painfully.
It is empowering to hear the voice of someone who has found the healthy end of weightloss and is willing to tell the story of the past and not discount it. You are an inspiration: I love your story and your beautiful smile. Looking forward to browsing through more of your blog. By the way, good luck on your books! I am an Andi as well! And I too am 26yo. Thank you for your blog! I look forward to reading about your experience and getting your tips and maybe a few good recipes?! I gained alot of weight my first year in college and I hated to work out, but I still did it twice a day.
I think the stress of having to work out made it hard to lose weight so I gave up the gym and just started cutting portions and walking and the weight all came off. You have such and incredible story and are an absolutely amazing writer. For the first time, in a very long time, I feel inspired and hopeful.
You are beautiful, then and now…. Happy to hear that you can enjoy a burger now and then, in moderation. Oh, and then walk Green lake of corse! I just came across your blog and am amazed by your weight loss and dedication to staying true to yourself instead of being a slave to the scale and gym. And now that I read that you only live about 45 minutes north of me, I want you to come to my house and kick my butt into gear and cook me yummy healthy food: Wow, what a lucky day it was for me to happen upon your recipe on Pinterest, which lead me to your incredibly witty and thought provoking blog.
Nice to meet you, Andie. I look forward to more of your creativity, humor and wit. My good friend Lynsay shared it with me and this is what i just shared on my Facebook about you:. Thank you Lynsay Horton for sharing with me! It is incredible how we adapt as we learn about ourselves, our needs, what we can dissolve and what is worth the fight! Definitely check it out! I stumbled across your awesome blog via Pinterest. I have a 3 year old and gained close to 90 pounds while I was pregnant.
Reading your blog has given me new hope! Someone pinned your blog on Pinterest today, so I followed the link. May I ask what it is you are writing? Do you have a publisher?
I always dream of writing for a living — but the process is difficult. BTW, just found your blog and read your exercise history…and cried so hard. I can more than relate. Too much to say…but not the strength to say it now. I give you a lot of Kudos. I myself have gone on the weight loss journey.
I have lost pounds but still have around to lose. I was so proud of myself and what I was able to achieve with a healthy dose of exercise and eating right. I find though the last bit of weight to be very discouraging to lose. It comes off slower, I find it harder to see the end of the tunnel now but about half way through I could see it clearly. I saw your blog posted somewhere…. I can not wait to read more and see what advice I can gain from you!
Right now i feel like you back when you joined the YMCA.. Thank you for sharing your story.. I love your blog, your perspective, your word choices, your recipes. Thanks so much for sharing. I just discovered it today. I really appreciate your inspiration!
I am so glad I stumbled upon this. Much like you, I grew up in the kitchen. Much like you, I adore good! Much like you, I also have sciatica although I have that nagging pain in my right buttock- not my left.
And much like you, I never really enjoyed the gym, although I love being active if that makes sense. I also just recently moved to Seattle, and I sold my car. I walk to work now 2 mi round trip and everywhere else I can.
I hope that my lifestyle change can help me succeed like it has for you. You have inspired me to stay positive and keep trying. I have to ask… in your exercise history, where were those hiking pictures taken? I thought to myself they looked like Mt.
Then again, every hiking picture makes me think of Mt. I love this blog…found it just now on pintrest. Your blog is incredible — so beautifully-crafted and organized… I simply want to gobble it up!
You are definitely being book-marked: I love that you are so real! I love this blog, and I hate blogs — I tend to find them boring: I also adore that you have a firm grasp on the English language and grammar weird, I know, but verbiage really bothers me!
I have been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now after stumbling across it on Pinterest, and I just had to tell you how much I adore you and your site. As a college student, you make weight loss and maintenance seem attainable—not an easy feat.
Thank you for sharing your story. You really are an inspiration… And quite witty, I might add! This is such a cool blog. There are so many blogs yet so few that really get a person.
Bookmarking for many futures. I just found your blog while searching Pinterest for yummy recipes… you are an inspiration! Thank you for writing everyday and telling your story the good and bad.
I love your heartfelt writing, your candor and your honesty. I resolve to plan ahead with lunch this year. I do pretty well on dinners but love the prepare salad veges ahead of time idea. I am also loving the fluffy oatmeal recipe, off to try it now although here in Australia is it 30 degrees celcius here, our summer and may be a little hot!
I love the plan ahead nature of breakfast too. If I was to make a massive pot for five days would I just times all the ingredients by 5? I am so excited to find this site. Thank you for sharing your story with everyone, I am happy to know that there is someone out there that did look like me and successfully changed there life, I have been up and down on my weight since I can remember, I have started eating right and exercising more, but I do enjoy the good things but in moderation.
Thank you and good luck on your ventures. I love your site. I am so glad I found it. I was at my heaviest recently lbs and I am now down to and my first goal is to reach lbs. Thank you for sharing your very inspirational and motivating story. I am so excited to hear that you are writing 2 books. Thank you so much Amy!
Yes, the first book to be released Spring will be a weight loss memoir. The second is a cookbook: I just happened upon your blog and love, love, love it! I came across your blog through Pinterest.
